I Don't See Anything That's Not Beautiful
Louise Kames

City: Dubuque
State: IA

Dimensions: 84 x 30 x 48
Year created: 2021
Overall dimensions: 84 x 30 x 48", dimensions and weight variable depending on ceiling hanging structure.
Medium: Screenprint on Polyester Voile
Statement: For the past two years, I’ve photographed small piles of sticks and leaves placed near a driveway by a religious Sister who was experiencing beginning signs of dementia. In my conversations with Sister, I discovered that her aim in this gathering ritual was to beautify the landscape and to calm her mind. This is a prototype fabric installation with screen-printed images of the stick piles. The images of the stick piles disappear with the veiled layers when viewed from the front. My plan is to use silk organza fabric which will offer a more organic aesthetic.

City: Appleton

Dimensions: 24 x 36 x 2
Year created: 2021
Overall dimensions: 24x36
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Statement: Ever since I was little, I was obsessed with plaid. Eventually I was able to take a weaving class and began to understand plaid on another level. There are many rules that go into weaving. I have begun to discover that some rules have to be broken to actually make a painting function correctly. I have taken a set collection of guidelines and made a new creation. I continue to search and try to find the perfect place between structure, freedom, and control. I have branched out into using this to also create dialogue on social issues, especially within the LGTBQ+.

Overall dimensions: 30x40
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Statement: Ever since I was little, I was obsessed with plaid. Eventually I was able to take a weaving class and began to understand plaid on another level. I would weave and be enthralled watching it slowly come together thread by thread, becoming more defined with each pass. There are many rules that go into weaving. I have begun to discover that some rules have to be broken to actually make a painting function correctly. I have taken a set collection of guidelines and made a new creation. I continue to search and try to find the perfect place between structure, freedom, and control.

Bill Mitchell

City: LANCASTER
State: WI

Dimensions: 18 x 20
Year created: 2021
Overall dimensions: 24x26
Medium: anthotype and colored pencil on paper
Statement: A spinach emulsion anthotype of a small land art piece made from willow and cedar twigs to form the letters of DNA, only lasting a few days. The world of genetic code has become so ingrained in our existence, almost like another language we're all just learning. The environmentally friendly plant emulsion allows the natural land works to be documented while staying true to the simplicity of working with natural materials.

City: Chicago
State: IL

Dimensions: 25 x 25 x 6
Year created: 2020
Overall dimensions: 25 by 25 inches
Medium: Found Pillow, Sticks, Thread
Statement: I give visual form to the relationships I have had with myself and with others over time. Accordingly, my work adheres to a process of finding, altering and combining non-traditional art supplies in efforts to reconstruct meaning. The relationships in my life provide me with comfort and stability on a daily basis, much like the chairs and pillows in my living space. Unlike the artificiality of such objects, however, human connection is subject to strain and rupture. I strive to comprehend the emotional complexity I have felt when faced with organic changes in interpersonal relationships.

City: Chicago
State: IL

Dimensions: 75 x 53 x 8
Year created: 2021
Overall dimensions: 75 by 53
Medium: Spring mattress, upholstery foam, fabric, caulk, paint, rope, preserved moss
Statement: I offer an alternative lens for the comfort and intimacy that is commonly associated with this functional object. Cutting into the surface of the mattress exposes its complex layers of support, while simultaneously leaving them vulnerable to manipulation. The resulting patterns are inspired by organic forms in nature and the human body, creating a dialogue with the artificiality of the leftover object. Overall, this piece examines changes in human connection, preserving a regard for the topography of what was lost while exploring the creation of something new.

LOUISE PAPPAGEORGE

City: Chicago
State: IL

Dimensions: 43 x 36 x 9
Year created: 2021
Overall dimensions: 43H X 36W X 9D
Medium: Crochet, metallic paint, patina, metal leaf
Statement: Working across materials and classifications and moving beyond the traditional uses of lace and crochet conventional techniques are re-purposed to create complex dimensional compositions. These forms interact with luminosity, line, shadows and textures. This medium of expression continually illuminates the shadowy  truth  of the innate strength of women generally and over time. The purpose always remains circular and repetitive, much the same as the distaff work always expected of the feminine role. I enjoy being present and contemporary to interpretation but the work is as ancient as time.
